Global engineering, procurement, consulting and construction company, Black & Veatch, has been given a lead role in supporting the development of a 2GW solar and battery storage project by UK developer Amberside Energy.
The project framework will consist of standalone, as well as co-located, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery sites across the UK. Although it will be Black & Veatch’s responsibility to create independent energy production estimates for each site, capacity is expected to range from 20MW to 100MW.
The announcement means that Black & Veatch will plan and design these solar and battery storage systems, as well as the electricity distribution and transmission assets. The company will also manage interfaces with National Grid and distribution network operators.
Marc Scrambler, CEO of Amberside Energy, said that the company chose Black & Veatch for the project because of its “global experience, diligent approach and alignment with our drive for engineering excellence in everything we do.
“This portfolio is part of our suite of plans, all chosen to support the UK in achieving its decarbonisation targets.”
