EDF Renewables UK has announced its intention to develop a 114MW battery storage system between Dunston and Swainesthorpe in the south of Norwich.
Before submitting a planning application next year, EDF has begun environmental and technical assessments, as well as consulting with the local community.
Director of planning at EDF Renewables UK’s storage and private wire division, Martin Cole said: “As more of our lives are powered by electricity – from heating to cars – our energy system is changing. Batteries help to future-proof the grid and cost-effectively integrate more renewable power. Having more of our electricity generated renewably from homegrown sources will lead to lower bills and greater energy security.”
Public consultation on the draft plans is set to take place from 21 November 2022 till 12 December 2022. After which a planning application will be submitted to South Norfolk Council for approval in 2023.
The proposed project would add to EDF Renewable’s growing portfolio. This year the company launched the first phase of community consultation for a hybrid wind-solar-battery project in Wales, and begun construction of a 50MW/100MWh battery energy storage system project in Coventry.
