Scottish energy storage developer ILI Group has confirmed a sales tender for a 300MW battery energy storage (BESS) portfolio.
The portfolio consists of three utility scale BESS developments across Scotland and the firm is now welcoming expressions of interest until 23 January 2023.
Of the BESS projects included within the portfolio, two have a capacity of 50MW and are situated in the North of Scotland. These projects have connection dates already pre-established for March 2024 and May 2024. Rounding off the portfolio is a 200MW project in central Scotland with a connection date of 2026.
“We have been developing our battery storage portfolio since 2018 with eight projects totalling 400MW already sold to developers. Great to see the need and urgency for energy storage is now understood,” said Mark Wilson, CEO of ILI Group.
“This new portfolio offers an exceptional opportunity for the right developer in the battery storage sector, containing 300MW of ready-to-build (RTB) projects, with early connection dates running from 2024-2026.
“Energy storage projects like these are the missing backbone of the energy transition and the drive to net zero.”
ILI is exploring a number of energy storage solutions as a means to support the create additional flexibility and reliability on the energy grid. One of these solutions is pumped hydro energy storage, a technology that ILI has been exploring at Loch Awe in Scotland.
The Balliemeanoch project at Loch Awe, Dalmally in Argyll and Bute will be able to supply 1.5GW of power for up to 30 hours. It is the third and largest of ILI’s pumped storage hydro projects, with the other two being Red John at Loch Ness and Corrievarkie at Loch Ericht.
ILI is also currently awaiting the outcome of the government’s call for evidence on long duration storage, stating that having a market mechanism in place would enable the current pipeline of over 5GW of pumped storage hydro to be built.
ILI similarly announced the sale of its 50MW utility-scale battery project in Fife, Scotland, to Abbey Group Cambridgeshire and YooGen1 in March 2021.
