Viridian Solar has partnered with EO Charging to integrate the latest generation of electric vehicle (EVs) chargers and solar panels into residential homes as part of new building regulations.

The collaboration will see EO provide Viridian with its EO Mini Pro 3 domestic charger in order to comply with the Government’s recent update to building regulations, requiring new homes to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30%.

“Installing low carbon technology, such as solar panels and heat pumps, and using materials in a more energy efficient way to keep in heat will help cut emissions – lowering the cost of energy bills for families and helping deliver the UK’s climate change ambitions,” the government said in its announcement.

The distribution partnership agreement will see a co-branded version of the Mini Pro 3 made available to Viridian Solar’s customers, alongside EO’s new smartphone app.

“Low carbon technologies such as solar panels, battery storage and EVs are a critical element in helping the UK reach its 2030 net zero targets,” said Tom Pollard, head of distribution sales at EO Charging.

“Viridian is the perfect partner to help us ensure more EVs on our roads are powered by renewable energy. As vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging becomes a reality in the near future, we hope this collaboration will also enable homeowners and landlords to benefit from responsible energy usage, selling excess energy generated from solar panels – or fully charged EVs – back to the Grid at times of peak demand.”

Viridian and EO will combine their solutions in order to optimise homes in accordance with the new regulations. This will provide solar energy with a prominent role in supplying clean energy to British households in addition to the energy required to charge EVs at home.

“Housebuilders need to meet new Building Regulations that require both solar and EV charging on new homes built across the UK,” said Stuart Elmes, CEO of Viridian Solar.

“Clearline fusion is the market leading solar product for new build applications, and we are delighted to be working with such a well-respected name from the EV charging industry to bring these complementary products together.”

The partnership with EO is the latest in a string of agreements Viridian has made in recent months in light of the building regulation changes. The company signed a Group Supply Agreement with Avant Homes to use Clearline fusion roof-integrated solar panels as its exclusive solar product going forwards where there is a requirement for solar.

Alongside this, Viridian extended its partnership with housebuilder Bellway in early 2022, which will also see its Clearline fusion roof-integrated solar systems installed on many new homes.

These agreements showcase the potential solar has in decarbonising households and the measures being undertaken in order to comply with green building regulations.
