Battery storage and EV charging firm Alfen has been selected by Centrica Business Solutions to provide battery energy storage solutions.

The three-year framework agreement will see Alfen supply the energy firm with sub 10MW battery energy storage solutions. It comes after Centrica signed a separate three-year agreement with Alfen in December 2020, this time for the provision of elecric vehicle (EV) chargers, installing them at the homes of its British Gas engineers before moving on to British Gas and Centrica sites.

Alfen offers both stationary and mobile battery energy storage solutions that it lauds as being tailor-made for different markets and applications. It has a number of partnerships to its name; in 2019 it penned a deal with Joju Solar, with the rolling contract seeing Alfen provide Joju with domestic EV chargers from its Alfen Eve range.

Yves Vercammen, country manager at Alfen Belgium, explained how the collaboration with Centrica Business Solutions started in Belgium, with the two companies - through the framework agreement - now taking "the next step by jointly developing the energy storage market across Europe".

"We are proud to partner with a renowned party such as Centrica and to join hands to realise value-add and innovative service propositions for Centrica's customers based on our versatile energy storage solutions.”
